I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jana as a person and a midwife. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. At every prenatal visit I learned something new because Jana loves to teach and loves to educate you in everything baby! When it came down to the birthing day when my husband called her she was at my home within 20 minutes! She was super attentive, loving, and caring! I felt completely safe and encouraged during the whole process.
 
My favorite memory is when baby was starting to crown she told me to reach down and put the palm of my hand on my baby’s head and gently guide him out as his head was coming, I remember her saying “you’re bonding with your baby right now”. It felt so incredibly amazing to feel the top of his head as he was coming and I did bond with him immediately. After he was born she stayed for a long time to care for us. She made sure he was latching on properly when breastfeeding and did all the baby care right in front of us which was so comforting. She was so patient, kind, respectful of all our wishes and above all else LOVE radiated off of her. If we decide to have more children we would only want her. I will forever be grateful to her.
 
One last thing I would like to share. I have had 2 previous cesarean births at the hospital and 1 successful vaginal birth after my cesareans at a different hospital where I tore immensely. My biggest fear was to 1. Possibly end up at the hospital again and 2. Tearing really bad again. With Jana’s advice and care I didn’t tear and I had my first successful Homebirth here in the comfort of my own home where I felt loved and safe. It was the best birth experience out of all my 4 that I’ve had and I owe all that to our Father who brought Jana into my life. I’m sure there sooooo much more she did for us without us knowing. She is wonderful and I highly recommend her.

Jana helped with my labor and the birth of my third baby. I loved how she was friendly and knowledgeable about natural things. I had a rare condition in the last weeks of my pregnancy and she knew of the supplements I could take to help me. My experience with Jana has been phenomenal. I am very grateful to God for having met her and having experienced something so beautiful in my home. Before my baby was delivered, Jana was there to provide the best possible care. She was always there to advise me and tell me that everything would be fine. I am very impressed with Jana because she has a lot of knowledge in her area which made me feel very comfortable with her care. During all the time she showed a lot of patience and professionalism. The delivery was easier thanks to her advice. In each contraction she helped me calm down and encouraged me that I could do it! I couldn’t have done it without her help! After the delivery at my house, she checked my baby and made sure everything was normal with him. I highly recommend highly getting care with Jana. I would like to give special recognition to a beautiful person whom I am honored to have as a friend, Jana Johnston (the Partera Juanita). I am sure that God placed in my heart the desire to bring my Marietta into this world with the help of a midwife.

All my life I grew up with the idea that a hospital is the safest place to have a child, but it was my first birth where I realized how wrong I was! The same doctor caused a uterine prolapse, among other things. I never felt free to refuse medication or unnecessary procedures, and I felt guilty for wanting to make my own decisions about my babies! In fact in hindsight, it is very sad what many women are subjected to against their will. (This has been my experience, but I know that there are also good doctors, I personally know several) And God put Jana,  Juanita in my path.

Jana not only answered all my doubts about what it is to have a baby at home, and boy, I had many, but she also answered those of my [spanish-speaking] husband because she has perfect Spanish! The ministry of this BEAUTIFUL woman will change the stereotype that almost all of us have about the work of a midwife.  A midwife works with you at every step of the pregnancy with unmatched love.  My appointments were ONE HOUR, I felt special in each one of them. With this pandemic my nerves were at 1000% but Jana always brought calm to my life, she always assured me that everything would be fine. So it was. My Marietta had the best team to be born with and it was all beautiful. It hurt horribly but Jana was present at EVERY contraction, at home when I thought I couldn’t anymore, Jana was there. God gave her to me because I know He wants other women to have that experience.

If you have any questions, CALL HER!! Fall in love with what your body is capable of. Change your perspective, you will fall in love with what it is to have a home birth, you will fall in love with what midwifery is.  Above all, it is inexpensive and possible. The care is of the highest quality. It was beautiful, empowering and worth it!!! Thanks, Jana! I will never stop thanking you for everything you did for us.
